The KIP 990 is the top of the 900-series production line: 20 ppm black / 16 ppm color (7,200 sq ft/hr B&W, 5,760 sq ft/hr color) at 600 x 1,800 dpi, 7,800 sq ft across four rolls up to 36 inches wide, and an integrated 600 dpi optical KIP 2300 CCD scanner that turns originals into editable PDFs on the fly. The controller carries 16 GB of RAM, the 12-inch System K touchscreen drives the KIP ImagePro workflow, and energy use is reasonable for the class (2.4 kWh printing, 3.4 W sleep). It's built for print shops, reprographics houses, marketing agencies, and large in-house teams running 30,000+ sq ft a month with regular scan/copy needs alongside production printing. The catch buyers admit to: the integrated scanner is excellent but adds significant footprint and cost — if you're really only printing, the 980 saves money. And like all production KIPs, the per-print economics only work above ~25,000 sq ft a month. Below that, look at the 800-series MFPs.
