Is this the right scanner for you?

Who the WideTEK 48CL is actually for

Most equipment pages just tell you what a device does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We offer equipment for every business need, but the right machine depends on your specific workflow.

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • Pick this if you scan AEC drawings, plans, and routine archival material up to 48 inches wide.
  • Pick this if CIS color fidelity is acceptable and you want lower cost than CCD.
  • Pick this if auto-width, auto-crop, and auto-deskew would speed up batch jobs.
  • Pick this if direct cloud, FTP, SMB, or USB output fits your archival pipeline.
  • Pick this if 16 GB RAM and 128 GB SSD on the standalone Linux matter for buffering.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • It's fine if you scan a mix of 36-inch and 48-inch originals.
  • It's fine if you mostly scan at 200-300 dpi.
  • It's fine if you accept CIS rather than CCD color.
  • It's fine if you save to network share via the touchscreen.
  • It's fine if originals stay under 2.5 mm thickness.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • Skip this if you need museum-grade CCD color — get the WideTEK 48 instead.
  • Skip this if originals exceed 2.5 mm thickness — get the 36ART.
  • Skip this if you need a printer or MFP — scanner only.
  • Skip this if your originals top out at 36 inches — the 36CL saves money.
  • Skip this if you need duplex single-pass — get the 36DS.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The WideTEK 48CL (48CL-600) is the CIS counterpart to the WideTEK 48 CCD: 48-inch (1,220 mm) max scan width, 50-inch (1,270 mm) document width, 2.5 mm thickness handling, 1,200 x 1,200 dpi optical (9,600 interpolated), 11.4 m/min (7.5 inch/s) color at 200 dpi, standalone 64-bit Linux with Intel quad-core, 16 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD, Gigabit Ethernet, and a 7-inch color WVGA touchscreen. White-LED lighting is IR/UV-free with zero warm-up, and auto-width recognition, auto-crop, and auto-deskew speed up batch capture. Direct scan-to-FTP, SMB, USB, and cloud is built in. The honest catch: as with the 36CL, this is CIS — color fidelity is good but not absolute museum-grade CCD. For high-throughput AEC drawing capture and routine large-format archival, the 48CL is genuinely fast and cheaper than the 48 CCD. For art reproduction or color-critical reference, the 48 CCD is worth the premium.
