Is this the right printer for you?

Who the KIP 3002 Wide Format Printer is actually for

Most equipment pages just tell you what a device does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We offer equipment for every business need, but the right machine depends on your specific workflow.

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • Pick this if you want the most recent firmware in the 3000 family with current KIP support.
  • Pick this if you need 36-inch B&W output for under 1,500 sheets monthly.
  • Pick this if dry-toner durability matters more to you than ink color depth.
  • Pick this if you want a sub-$15K plotter for a 2-5 person design office.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • It's fine for AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam plot output at standard line weights.
  • It's fine if you batch print once or twice daily and can wait 10-15 minutes per set.
  • It's fine for survey, civil, and structural work where halftones are minimal.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • Skip this if you need color — it's B&W only.
  • Skip this if you'll exceed 1,500-2,000 D-size sheets per month consistently.
  • Skip this if you do high-density GIS or aerial photo plotting.
  • Skip this if your office can't accommodate a 430-lb floor-standing unit.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The KIP 3002 is the third-generation refresh in the 3000 family — same 4 D-size ppm, same 600 x 600 dpi, same monochrome LED dry-toner engine, but with the most current KIP Request/PrintNet stack and longer-term firmware support than the older 3000 or 3001. It's aimed at small architectural, engineering, and survey offices that print under 1,500 36-inch sheets a month and want a dry-toner plotter that holds up better on a job site than inkjet. You get one or two roll options, integrated network printing, support for HPGL/2, PDF, TIFF, JPG, and Postscript 3, and Energy Star certification on a standard 120V 15A circuit. Footprint is the same compact ~49 inches across; weight is around 430-440 pounds, so it's not a roll-it-into-the-corner-yourself install. The honest regret here: nobody buys this expecting fast output, but at 4 ppm a 40-sheet bid set takes 10+ minutes of dedicated machine time. If that bothers you, the 5200 or 7100 doubles speed. If steady, durable, low-cost-per-print is what you want, the 3002 is the right pick.
